Richard Tan from Spanlogic.net admit, I SPAM so what?

Well, folks here's the reply from Spanlogic.net's Marketing Director Mr Richard Tan on his company's spamming policy.

1. We appreciate your effort in providing anti-spam related public service.

2. While we understand your standard of spamming might mean even to one person, we only sent that promotion to 157 selected web designers and small web hosters.

3. I believe we are labeled as spam because the offer might not be attractive enough. Imagine if Mercedes Benz sent you an email that their C-Classes are selling at 50% cheaper (that’s like RM130,000+ of saving), would you still label them as spamming? I believe your “reader” would not even tell his mom of that good deal, let alone reporting to you.

4. Anyway, by your standard, we are really SPAMMING and we can’t deny it. So, would you please let us have the email address of your “reader” that made the report, so that we may officially apologize to him if he is really angered by our action, and remove him from our marketing emails that could actually save him money or even make some handsome profits.

5. Also we would like to apologize to you if you feel offended by our marketing efforts.

6. The last but not the least, we hope you don’t mind we use your published article about us spamming, in our Facebook and Twitter, and possibly many popular forums. This is really a good marketing stuff that would boost our SEO ranking, and we sincerely hope your blog would also enjoy the same SEO benefits.

Thank you.

p/s: If you have more than 5 .my domains, we can also extend the reseller pricing tier to you.

Best regards,
For Spanlogic Network Sdn Bhd

Richard Tan
Marketing Director

My official reply:
Dear Richard Tan,

every spammer labelled their spamming activities "marketing", "email marketing" or "great hot deal bargain".

So long as you send one unsolicited email to someone you don't know to offer a commerical offering where in the first place the email recipient does not opt-in into your commercial emailing list - you're spamming.

And if you get someone to teach you how to google correctly, that's the worldwide recognise definition of spamming and its not a definition of mine own.

Your replied is published as fairness to you and your company as what ever you wrote is released to the public. As to your company's image and the image your goodself carry can only be judge by the public, your associates and those web designers you spammed whether they would want to continue to support you.

If one were to ask me whether you're guilty, off course the evidence is evident. Well, my job to expose Malaysian spammers ends here, to support or not to support, to associate or disassociate is up to individual to judge you and your company.

My private reply:
As a matter of fact, if you don't mind dirty publicity which yourself is fond of (from your open mindness, which is obvious), may I have your wife and children's email address?

I'd love to send them adults video and sex toys promotion via email. I'm a reseller of products in the Western market where it is regulated and lawful and guess what? It sells like hot cakes.

I'd be glad if I'm allowed to spam your kins' email to offer them some of my hot products as I believe they have needs too. If your wife or daugther looks good, I would like to share some very great adults industries opportunities with them like making videos.

I had a friend name Anwar, but don't get me wrong it's not the Malaysia PKR leader Anwar Ibrahim, just happens to have the same name "Anwar". I was wonder if I can had a join venture with your wife or daughter to make an adult movie and call it "Aksi Sek terkini Anwar dengan dua ahli wanita keluarga Richard Tan dari Spanlogic.net"

You can be the cameraman if you have the skills in shooting film.

This would sure to bring hot, dirty publicity to your goodself and company. I plan to sell the video in US dollar to western countries only, in Malaysia it's illegal, you know. If you agree on this deal, I'll give you a cut, you can even place an affiliate link on your company's web portal to sell it too.

You're a businessman and knows the value of money, give me a price, I'm sure we can work something out of this great deal.

Don't tell me, you're not married but I'm very open minded, it's also possible you really are, because this could be your father's company as your title "Marketing Director" sounds aged. Excuse me, if I'm wrong about your position, please do enlighten me on your status.

I hope you appreciate my effort

"Aksi Sek terkini Anwar dengan dua ahli wanita keluarga Richard Tan, Marketing Director dari Spanlogic.net"

is a great enticing SEO wording. Thank me later, when you and your company had all the dirty attention you wished for.

God bless you with your traffic.

.MY domain registrar a spammer too?

This is an email spam sent out by one of Malaysia's .MY domain registrar to some of the web designer's in Malaysia.

This case is reported with evidence forwarded. This is an invitation to the designer to become their reseller. Instead of being honest with a business proposal, words are twisted - a clear sign of dishonesty with hidden agenda?

Screens shot of the email is published and you be the judge.

Email receipient is greet as "Dear reseller" and in actual fact the web designer claimed he don't even know this company exist.

A reseller sign up link for people to sign up as reseller is attached in the email. Upon googling for their domain name, I found this:

DomainRegistry.my – Example of Ultimate Malaysian Bodohness

The truth is, I'm not sure this is one classic bodohness in business or Malaysian businesses still think spamming works or just plainly taking advantage of weak cyberlaw drafting and enforcing in Malaysia.

What's your thought. Malaysia Boleh... ka?

MAS latest SMS spam offer 'MH KL-Jakarta deal at MYR178'

Message arrive: 29 Mar 2010
Spammer number: 62002

Comment: MAS is a long time avid supporter of SMS spamming,  they use SMS spamming hoping to gain more market share, on the fore front they are reputable public listed company.  The have no respect of other and take no concern of whether the phone receipient are common fliers or not, they don't care.

The receipient of this message is a 16 year old secondary school children, do you think he is interested in MAS's offer to go to Jakarta? MAS don't give a damm - they just spam.

I went to their web site and found the contact form.  I filled in a note to ask them and awaiting for their reply now.  Shall update to status when reply is receive.

25 April 2010: My Reply to MAS customer service
Dear Customer Service,
Firstly thank you for reply and I admire you for your politeness.

It is unfortunate, the answer given is far from being satisfying.

You were saying
"Kindly allow us to explain that customers will receive SMS updates if they have subscribed to the mailing list, or have previously made a purchase with Malaysia Airlines"

This clearly explain how MAS get those phone numbers to spam. No wonder my 16 year old reader got SPAM by you. He just got his new phone from his father recently and has never been out of Malaysia, how is it possible then his new number is in your database?

So, let me guess Maxis is recycling their number when a subscriber terminate his service. New client get the number and get all the previous SPAM subscribed earlier on.

And so now to end the 16 year old boy's dilemma, he need to call you or your company's hot line?

You said "If they do not wish to continue receiving these SMS, they may opt to remove their name from the list by providing us the details."

But there is no specific number or contact is mentioned, is this means from now on, I should tell all my readers that if you receive SPAM from MAS, go to their website submit a complaint, wait from their reply and submit your detail get your information remove?

I had a question, did MAS stated clearly in their Terms and conditions that customer flying with MAS are subject to automatic agreed to being SPAM by MAS and this agreement is binding to whoever from thereon bearing or owing the new owner of his phone number?

Flying with MAS doesn’t means agreeing to allow you to do whatever you want with my private information.

May I suggest MAS stop all these nuisance immediately without having to ask or beg for it. It is not wrong to send promotional updates to your customers BUT, BUT read this

You must first ask your customers whether they want to be update via phone (I believe there are those who want it) and in all future updates, there must be an easy opt out way clearly mentioned at the bottom of each SMS message send to your customers. That’s easy opt in and easy opt out instead of what’s is being practice “Don’t know how I got and hassle way out”

I strongly advice you to escalate this message to your top management and let them know the worlds is watching and stop abusing technologies and start respecting others.

Regards

Should you and me also join them as sms spammer,  my guess is Maybank wouldn't do any illegal activities in Malaysia,  if they do it,  it must be legal.  Yeah!...  new business opportunity.
